Farrow & Ball is joining the 2016 retrospective. The paint brand recently reminded us that in 2016 it debuted Inchyra Blue, a gray-blue with a touch of green—one of those hues that functions as a neutral for how well it complements other colors. The difference between this paint color and other 2016 relics? It is more popular now than it has ever been.
Inchyra Blue has been appearing frequently of late. Most recently, a high-gloss finish was spotted in the office of an Austin, Texas, home designed by Annie Downing (pictured above). It also transformed the dated blue tub tile in Allison Pierce’s L.A. bathroom, making it feel intentional and slightly more modern—with no major renovations required. It is a chameleon of a swatch that can read playful or serious, depending on the setting.
In recent conversations, designers have indicated a desire to see more of this Farrow & Ball shade, particularly on interior window trim and exteriors. While it can hold its own alongside punchy corals and purples, the brand suggests taking it in a moody direction by combining it with Black Blue, or giving it a nautical twist alongside Vardo. Some 2016 trends may have faded, but this paint color has endured.
